Every now and then we are looking for new people to join the Latorta team. If you would like to be considered for a position in our retail store or cake decorating school, we welcome your application at any time.

The type of people we are looking for will need to hit the ground running, as you cannot learn the huge amount of cake decorating knowledge we need to share with our customers simply on the job - this knowledge really needs to be pre-learned. You will need to be a cake decorator, working at a professional standard (not necessarily being paid for your cakes, but cakes that are worthy of high praise and recognition). You will need to be really passionate about cake decorating and/or other sweet creations (cookies, chocolate etc etc). Prior retail experience is not essential - we can teach you that in a few weeks. An impressive amount of cake decorating knowledge is essential, however.

  • Include some photos of the cakes you have made (or direct us to a website/facebook page that showcases your work) - this one is super important!! A picture tells us a great deal about your cake knowledge and the application of that knowledge.

CURRENT VACANCIES:

 

RETAIL SALES ASSISTANT

Latorta is seeking a friendly cake decorator to share their knowledge with customers in our retail store.  The role is quite varied throughout the day including serving customers and taking payments, receiving stock, merchandising, fulfilling online orders, printing edible images and more.  Clear and accurate communication with our customers is of utmost importance, as is a warm and friendly nature. 

Approx 20-25 hours per week during the midweek days.  Occasional weekend shifts might be required a few times a year.

Teaching and demonstrating experience is also highly regarded, but not essential.  This role is extremely suited to a professional cake decorator who would like to supplement their income or take a break from custom cake orders.

COURSE DIRECTOR

Latorta is looking to engage an exceptional person to take on the role of Course Director at Latorta’s Cake Decorating School.  We desire a passionate and talented cake decorator, who will positively enhance our cake decorating classes and the quality of our student’s experience.

The role is multi-faceted and needs someone with great admin and communication skills alongside exceptional cake decorating skills and knowledge.  A background in training/education is also desirable.  Main tasks include: 

* the management, co-ordination and organisation of our decorating school and its program of classes

* designing of new classes

* instructing of cake decorating classes, and facilitating for guest artists etc.

* demonstrating cake decorating techniques (in store, events, private bookings)

* marketing activities

* keeping abreast of the latest trends in cake design

The role is fully supported by the Managing Director and the great team we have at Latorta, so you are never on your own.

There is also an opportunity for additional retail shifts in our cake decorating supplies store at Majura Park, which is another great way to get to know the Latorta team and our wonderful customers further, and to continue the relationships built with our students.

 Cake Decorating Instructor

CAKE DECORATING INSTRUCTOR

Latorta has a vacancy for a talented Cake Decorating Instructor to join its team in its cake decorating school.

 We are searching for a person not only with exceptional cake decorating skills in either fondant, buttercream, chocolate and/or royal icing, but also with the ability to teach these skills in a warm and professional manner, encouraging students from beginner to intermediate level.

The opportunities of the position also includes designing new classes, preparing lesson plans, and writing course notes, in addition to the teaching.

Our classes are generally held on the weekends and you may be scheduled 1-2 times per month. Shifts range from half day classes (5 hours) to full day classes (9-10 hours) and offer an attractive remuneration.

There is also an opportunity for additional retail shifts in our cake decorating supplies store at Majura Park, which is another great way to get to know the Latorta team and our wonderful customers further, and to continue the relationships built with our students.

CHOCOLATIER

Latorta is looking to engage a talented Chocolatier to run some classes in its cake decorating school.

We are searching for a person not only with exceptional skills in chocolate work, but also with the ability to teach these skills in a warm and professional manner, encouraging students from beginner to intermediate level and beyond.  Ideally, you will have extensive experience in tempering, enrobing, moulding, chocolate garnishes, truffle making, etc.

The opportunities of the position also includes designing new classes, preparing lesson plans, and writing course notes, in addition to the teaching.  Our instructors are fully supported and assisted by management, our course director and class facilitators, every step of the way.

Our classes are generally held on the weekends and we envision chocolate classes will be scheduled a few times per year, in accordance with demand. Shifts range from half day classes (5 hours) to full day classes (9-10 hours) and offer an attractive remuneration.
