FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS WE GET ASKED MOST AT LATORTA
Our name "Latorta" is a play on the Italian and Spanish phrase "La Torta" meaning "The Cake". But we are more than that... we stock everything for the caker, baker and chocolatier as well.
Yes we do, and it’s beautiful!
Latorta is located at Shop T1 Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets, 36 Mildura Street, Fyshwick in Canberra (Australia). Our boutique style store is located in the Niche Markets wing, immediately at the entrance to the ground level carpark, and has direct access from Mildura Street.
We offer free re-usable bags, so if you forget to bring yours, or need to save them for your grocery shopping, then please take advantage of our gorgeous re-usable Latorta bags.
Make sure you give yourself plenty of time to browse – as there is so much to see. (we totally recommend bringing a picnic lunch too LOL, because you will want to spend hours here looking at all the entire range of fabulous goodies and inspiring sugar creations).
Latorta is open 7 days a week including most public holidays too. So, if you are having cake dramas, or forgot that special item, or work crazy hours yourself, then we are here to assist you.
Our trading hours are:
Mondays to Thursdays 9:00am to 5:30pm
Fridays 9:00am to 7:00pm
Saturdays 9:00am to 5:00pm
Sundays 10:00am to 4:00pm
Public Holidays 10:00am to 4:00pm (with some exceptions)
The quickest way to receive an answer to your question is via the telephone.
If we are serving another customer when you ring, your call will divert to our answering machine. We encourage you to leave a message, as we would be delighted to serve you as our next-in-line.
Email enquiries are answered periodically during the day.
Facebook enquiries may take a little longer to reply, as only one staff member has access to our Facebook page. So please use another communication method if your enquiry is urgent.
Latorta has been selling quality cake decorating supplies since March 2012.
We stock a wide variety of products for the caker, baker and chocolatier. Our team of professional decorators provide excellent service and advice – so whether you are a home baker or professional decorator, we love to share our knowledge with you and see your creativity come to life.
We don’t make custom cakes here at Latorta (we hate doing dishes LOL), rather we are here to support you in YOUR cake making project. Our role is to provide you with the ingredients, tools and equipment for you to create your own cakes – and we are always happy to provide advice too.
We do however, have some freshly baked ‘naked’ cakes that are ready for you to decorate. These are perfect if you are having oven dramas or just don’t enjoy the baking side of things. We generally have some stock of our deliciously rich chocolate mud cakes in the freezer, and can special order in many other popular flavours in round and square cakes from 4” up to 16” in size. Our naked cakes are for store pick up only – and cannot be shipped via post or courier.
Most definitely! The security of data on our website is of major importance to us and we have done everything we can to secure the data on our website and ensure your sensitive information like credit card details aren't compromised.
You will notice that in the address bar of your browser, there is a padlock next to our internet address. This is your assurance that our entire website, including our checkout, is secure and safe for you to use every day of the week 24 hours a day.
Our website and online store uses 256-bit SSL certificates to keep order details protected and provide a secure shopping experience for you. Your credit card and order data are encrypted and secure. In fact, our website is certified Level 1 PCI DSS compliant, meeting all 6 categories of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards.
Orders placed via our online store will receive a confirmation email and you will also be advised when your order has shipped, and its relevant tracking number.
Edible image orders received via images@latorta.com.au will not receive a confirmation unless you specifically ask. In all instances, we shall send you a reply email to let you know your edible image or chocolate transfer is ready.
If you have not received any emails from us, please check your spam folder, or workplace security settings (ie classified government departments). If you still did not receive any confirmation emails from us after placing your order, please email us directly to contact@latorta.com.au
Yes, absolutely! You can collect your order from our store at Fyshwick Fresh Food Markets. Once your order has been picked and ready for collection, you'll be sent an email and/or SMS notifying you that your order is ready to be collected.
Absolutely! If there is something you have been looking for but cannot find it on our website or in store please just ask. You can contact us via phone (02 6257 1248) or email (contact@latorta.com.au). We source our products from around the world and represent many of the best brands in cake decorating and chocolate and may be able to source your special order fairly quickly.
We also offer fabulous bulk order discounts on certain products – sometimes, we have enough quantity in stock to fulfil your bulk order immediately, but sometimes, these may have to be especially ordered in for you and may take a little longer to arrive.
We offer flat rate shipping throughout Australia on most orders.
International orders will be contacted once shipping costs are calculated.
Please note however, that an ‘oversized’ surcharge applies to some products that are particularly large, heavy or awkwardly sized for efficient shipping. Should you order a product that incurs the ‘oversized’ goods surcharge, we shall let you know of the additional charge. You may choose to accept the additional charge or amend your order.
Most definitely! We believe everyone should be able to have their cake and eat it too! We offer an extensive range of items that will suit those who have gluten, diary, egg and nut allergies, or have special dietary requirements such as vegetarians and vegans or restrictions for religious reasons.
If you wish us to check the ingredient list and manufacturing details of a certain product to ensure it meets your dietary needs, just let us know in the comments section of our orders – or give us a phone call or email
A ’use-by’ date signifies when a food must be consumed by for health and safety reasons, whereas a ‘best before’ date is used to indicate quality rather than safety.
‘Best before’ dates indicate when the food is at its peak quality. It is not unsafe to eat a food past its best-before date, but you may notice some quality, flavour or texture has been lost or the product may not perform as well as expected. Most ingredients we sell at Latorta have a best before date, which means you can still safely eat these for a while after the best before date. The Australian and New Zealand Food Standards Authority allows for foods that have a best before date to be legally be sold after that date, provided the food is still fit for human consumption
Foods with a shelf life of more than two years, may not show a ‘best before’ date at all, but rather a ‘manufactured on’ date. This is because it is difficult to give the consumer an accurate guide as to how long these foods will keep, as they may retain their quality for many years and are likely to be consumed well before they spoil. For example: many of our products that contain sugar as a key ingredient, will be labelled with a ‘manufactured on’ date, as the sugar preserves the food for a long period of time.

Yes we do and we have a great reputation for teaching world’s best cake decorating practices, so you can be assured you are learning professional techniques, food hygiene and competition worthy skills.
Our calendar of upcoming workshops can be found on our Classes page. We hold regular classes throughout the year and offer a great variety of topics for many ages and skill levels.

Please choose your items carefully, as Latorta do not offer refunds for change of mind. Refunds are only offered if the product is faulty or if we’ve made a mistake with your order. Please refer to our ‘refunds’ policy for further information.
Yes we do! Latorta offers online e-vouchers in various denominations from $25 to $500 as well as in-store gift cards for any amount.
Your gift recipient can shop with freedom, spending their credit on anything they like, including ingredients, equipment and tools (excludes classes).
Please note that our Online Gift Cards are to be used Online Only and our In store Gift Cards are to be used In Store Only.
Please be aware when purchasing Gift Cards, how the recipient will be spending (online or in store) and purchase accordingly. If you wish to be able to redeem the gift card on our classes, please purchase an In Store card.
Both Online and In Store Gift Cards do not need to be spent all at once. Use your card as many times as you like until the credit is spent.
Gift Cards are valid for 3 years.
